The Consistency Curve: Why Most People Plateau (and How to Shift It)

Early in my career, I used to think the key to success was motivation.

“Get fired up and go!”

But motivation fades.

What really moves the needle? Consistency.

And the more I worked with sales teams, leaders and entire organisations, the more I saw the pattern:

There’s a bell curve of consistency — and where you land determines your results.

Let me show you what I mean.

Want to shift your team’s centre of gravity toward consistent high performance?
👉 Let’s design something that sticks.

The Power of Tiny Shifts

If you’re reading this and thinking, “I bounce around that curve” — you’re not alone

I’ve been on almost every rung at some point.

The key isn’t perfection — it’s progress.

Ask yourself:

  • Where am I on the curve, honestly?
  • What would a small shift look like?
  • What could change if I made consistency my focus for the next 90 days?

You don’t have to leap from Average to Artistry overnight.
Just nudge your “centre of gravity” to the right. One decision, one habit at a time.

The 6 Levels of the Consistency Bell Curve

1. NUMB

Unaware. Unengaged. Going through the motions.
Stuck in their story — and blaming everything else.
This group doesn’t even realise consistency matters.

2. LOSE

They try… but it doesn’t stick. Often arrogant, opinionated, and closed off to feedback.
Their mindset holds them back — even when the opportunity is right in front of them.

3. AVERAGE

The biggest group. Inconsistent doers.
They know what to do, but don’t do it consistently enough for it to make a difference.

Honestly? I spent a few years here myself — doing the work, but not always with rhythm or focus.
And it showed.

4. WIN

These people are in motion. They’ve tasted success and know consistency is the key.
They plan, act, reflect. Their mindset is open. They ask:

“What’s Important Next?”

5. MASTERY

Here, consistency becomes subconscious. They don’t have to remind themselves — it’s part of who they are.
These people lead, influence, inspire. They move through setbacks fast.

6. ARTISTRY

This is the rare air — effortless excellence. Think of the performer who shines under pressure.
They’ve earned it through thousands of hours of reps — but they make it look easy.
